Volunteering for Wellbeing

posted in: News 0

Imperial War Museum North started to pioneer a new approach to volunteering around eight years ago, based around what the museum could do for the volunteers, as well as what the volunteers could do for the museum. Their approach offers extensive training and support to volunteers, many of whom are living with mental health problems or disabilities, supporting them to improve their skills, confidence and quality of life.

IWM North, now joined by Manchester Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry, have created a best practice guide to developing volunteering programmes which enhance wellbeing.

In Liverpool, many arts and cultural organisations, including the Bluecoat and FACT, run volunteering programmes. The Volunteer Centre in Liverpool is the place to go if you need advice and support, whether you are looking for volunteers or for volunteering opportunities, or HOP can help to put you in touch with the most appropriate contacts.
