Maldwyn Jones, who lives at Pine Lodge in Liverpool, has been painting up a storm with a spectacular collection of artworks.
Maldwyn has been supported by Community Integrated Care for almost a decade, and has always been very creative. So his Support Worker, Thomas Jones, made sure that Maldwyn’s love of art continued to flourish!
Service Leader, Adam Hardaker, reached out to Sarah McLaughlin, who owns Community Interest Company, Creative Balance – an organisation that provides therapeutic art services across Merseyside, for different ages and abilities in groups or one-to-one sessions.
Sarah told us, “When we first met, Maldwyn had limited movement with his hands and his fine motor skills were poor. He struggled to write his name and he was quite a quiet person. We’ve seen such an improvement in Maldwyn’s fine motor skills which have improved dramatically, along with his speech and his knowledge of art.”
Through hourly sessions once a week, Maldwyn is set tasks, which aim to challenge and expand his skills. These include experimenting with different media and techniques and researching specific artists and their works.
Maldwyn has now completed many projects, most of which are linked to his love of musicals and holidays. He shows great enthusiasm for painting, particularly acrylics and watercolours. He is able to use a wide range of materials and is eager to learn more. “He is always a pleasure to work with!” says Sarah.
