Memories of L13

Did you grow up in L13? Have you ever lived or worked in the area? If so, the team at Lister Steps wants to see your photos and hear your stories.

For the past year Lister Steps have been renovating The Old Library on Green Lane, L13 (formerly known as the Andrew Carnegie Library or Lister Drive Library) into a new multi-use venue for our community. We are looking forward to moving in later this year and want to use some of the space inside this beautiful Grade II listed heritage building to tell stories of life in the area over the years.

We want to hear the stories & voices of real people so if you’ve got memories of L13 then we’d love to hear from you. You can email us (olivia.johnson@listersteps.co.uk) or call us on 07988 778372 for a friendly chat.

You might also be interested in our weekly local history group which has moved online since lockdown started. Now every Friday, our research volunteers post a story that they’ve come across whilst digging around in the history of L13 & surrounding areas. Over the past 10 weeks we’ve learnt about murderers on the run, scandalous affairs, national strikes, the mysterious insane asylum, innovative inventors, the local skating rink and more!

For anyone interested in finding out more, you can join the conversation in our Facebook group called Community Memories – Lister Drive & Beyond https://www.facebook.com/groups/ListerDriveCommunityMemories/ where you can read all the case studies from the past few weeks.
