‘Bowl for Health’ is an eight week programme designed for complete newcomers to bowls, providing an overview of the basics and how to play a match.
The idea was developed and successfully piloted in 2017 by Holy Trinity Bowling Club in Formby, and is now being rolled out by more clubs across Sefton and Liverpool thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Fund and with support from Merseyside Sport (MSP) and its Foundation, Active Sefton and Liverpool City Council.
Run by qualified and welcoming coaches, older adults are being encouraged to feel the benefits of being more active by heading along to a Bowl for Health course near them. Taking part can give yourself a boost, feel more refreshed and is a great way to meet new people. Suitable for complete beginners, with all equipment provided – anybody can join in and no previous experience of bowls or any other sport is required.
