Below is a list of Liverpool Cares’ free Social Clubs in Liverpool for people aged 65 and above.
All of the events are hosted by people in their twenties and thirties who want to meet you and hear your stories. Share your skills and learn new ones, all while making new friends in your community!
Please call Abbie on 0151 659 1789 to book your place on any of these clubs. Some clubs have limited space, and it’s important that Liverpool Cares knows who’s going along! You can also call if you’d like any more information or if you are unsure how to get to the clubs from your home.
Tuesday 3 September, 1 – 3pm: Floristry Class – City Centre
Liverpool Cares Co-ordinator Rachael Treacher has many strings to her bow and is in fact a trained florist! She will be teaching you how to create beautiful hand-tied bouquets at this trendy outdoor bar. No experience necessary. There are limited spaces at this club, so a lottery will be in place. Call Abbie to put your name in the lottery!
Wednesday 4 September, 7 – 9.30pm: Theatre Visit – Hope Street Theatre, 22 Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BY
Take a visit to one of Liverpool’s newest theatres this September! Enjoy Go on Dad, knock!, a true story based in Liverpool. The show follows Betty and Ron, who make a harrowing discovery which unites their family. There are limited spaces at this club, so a lottery will be in place. Call Abbie to put your name in the lottery!
Saturday 7 September, 12 – 3pm: Film Club – City Centre
Take a vote on which film you’d like to watch at this monthly club. Will it be a classic, a comedy or our wild card? Drinks and snacks are provided, so just get comfy and enjoy an afternoon movie with your neighbours!
Monday 9 September, 6 – 8pm: Desert Island Discs – Anfield
We’re back at Kitty’s, but this time it’s for some music! The theme of this month’s Desert Island Discs is “holidays”, as we’re coming to the end of Summer. Think of a song which reminds you of a holiday, and we will play some of your choices out loud for a dance and sing (if it takes your fancy!)
Tuesday 10 September, 6 – 8pm: Creative Writing: Ransom Poetry – City Centre
This month we will be creating Ransom Poetry, sometimes known as “Found” Poetry. Cut out letters, words and phrases from newspaper and magazine headlines.
Saturday 14 September, 3 – 5pm: Antonio’s Card Games – City Centre
Younger neighbour and volunteer Antonio invites you to come along and play some card games! Whether you remember some card games from your youth, an expert on whist and bridge, or would like to learn how to play something new, this club is for everyone!
Tuesday 17 September, 12 – 2pm: Western Approaches – City Centre
We will gain access to this fascinating WWII bunker to learn all about the people that worked there and why it’s known as “the place where World War II was won”. Expect to see unexploded bombs, how staff living quarters looked and the famous “Map room”. There are limited spaces at this club, so a lottery will be in place. Call Abbie to put your name in the lottery!
Thursday 19 September, 6 – 8pm: Craft Club – Kensington
Attract some wildlife into your outdoor space by creating and decorating your own mini wooden bird feeders at our Kenny Craft Club! Chat and craft over a cuppa. Really simple to do, beginners absolutely welcome.
Saturday 21 September, 12.30 – 2pm: Technology Workshop – Penny Lane
If you have absolutely any gadget related questions, this social club is for you! Bring your phone, tablet or laptop with you, and we will pair you up with a patient, technology-savvy younger neighbour who will be more than happy to help!
Monday 23 September, 6 – 8pm: Shared Reading – City Centre
In collaboration with The Reader, at this club we will be reading short stories and poems aloud together. As a group we can discuss the texts, what we think they mean, if we can relate to them or how they make us feel. It’s good fun, there’s no pressure to read aloud. Whether you never read or do all the time, we’d love you to join us.
Wednesday 25 September, 6 – 8pm: Board Games – Wavertree
Enjoy a classic like Cluedo or scrabble, or find something new in this board game themed café! There’s every board game you could ever imagine under one roof, and you’re free to play whichever ones you like the sound of. There’s always lots of laughter at this club!
Thursday 26 September, 6 – 8pm: Script Reading – City Centre
We will provide a simple script, divide the parts between the group and you can read along with your neighbours. If you’re feeling extra brave, why not perform it for the group? There’s no pressure to join in if you don’t want to, just come along and enjoy the fun.
Monday 30 September, 6 – 8pm: Pub Club – Wavertree
Come along to this brilliant microbrewery and enjoy a free drink with your younger neighbours. Our pub clubs are a relaxed way to meet new people and chat in groups over some of your favourite tipples.
