Liverpool Cares’ December social clubs

Below is a list of Liverpool Cares’ ​free​ social clubs in Liverpool for people aged 65 and above. All of these events are hosted by people in their twenties and thirties who want to meet you and hear your stories. Share your skills and learn new ones, all while making new friends in your community!

Please call Abbie on 0151 659 1789 to book your place on any of these clubs. Some clubs have limited space, and it’s important that they know who’s coming along. ​You can also call if you’d like any more information or if you are unsure how to get to the clubs from your home.

Monday 2 December, 6 – 8pm: Quiz Night – Anfield

Come along to this community space/launderette for a cosy Winter quiz. There’ll be cake, coffee and really great company! General knowledge with some wintery themed questions thrown in for good measure, and winners will receive a prize.

Tuesday 3 December, 11am – 1pm: Bread Making Class – Kensington

Join your younger neighbours and baker Owen, and learn how to make your own sourdough loaf. You’ll take home a freshly baked loaf, as well as your own dough to prove and bake at home. Absolute beginners welcome! This club has very limited numbers, so please call Abbie to put your name in the lottery for a place.

Wednesday 4 December, 6 – 8pm: Winter Party – City Centre

Baltic Market once again invites you along to share some time with your neighbours, this month over a lovely mulled wine, as it’s the festive season! Enjoy some good company and conversation at this popular Baltic triangle venue.

Bus routes: 26, 27, 82 and 204 stop on St James Place/Stanhope Street

Thursday 5 December, 6 – 8pm: Katie’s Christmas Craft Club – Kensington

Younger neighbour Katie is leading this special Christmas Craft Club, and we will be making star shaped garlands out of card! Enjoy learning something new over a mince pie and a cuppa and this creative, crafty club.

Saturday 7 December, 12.30 – 2pm: Desert Island Discs – Penny Lane
Like the radio show of its namesake, come with a song in mind and why it’s meaningful to you, or just listen and enjoy the tunes! No need to bring any records/CDs with you, just the name of the song and artist. This month’s theme is ‘Winter’.

Tuesday 10 December, 6 – 8pm: Singalong – City Centre

We provide the lyrics and music to some well-known songs, and you and your neighbours sing along at this ever-popular social club. Enjoy a welcome drink and some nibbles from the restaurant while we sing along to Queen, Abba and even some special Christmas songs this month!

Wednesday 11 December, 11am – 12pm: Reminiscence Session – A trip across the boards – City Centre

This social club is your chance to chat about your memories of music. This month’s theme is theatre! From the Empire to the Royal Court we’ll be looking at local playwrights and the impact they made locally and nationally. We’ll also be having a bit of a singalong to some of the famous musicals that were born out of the city.

Sunday 15th December, 4 – 7pm: Christmas Film Club – City Centre

Come together on a Sunday afternoon to watch a festive film with your younger neighbours. This city centre bar will provide a welcome drink, and we will have a vote on the day for which film you’d like to watch. There’ll be time at the end for a good chat too!

Tuesday 17 December, 6 – 8pm: Shared Reading – City Centre

We provide a short story and a poem, and read it aloud section by section. We stop to analyse the characters, how it makes us feel and what we think will happen next. No pressure to read aloud, feel free to come along just to enjoy the story!

Wednesday 18 December, 12 – 2pm: Visit to Western Approaches – City Centre,

If history is your thing, this visit to a WWII bunker will be right up your street! Find out about the staff and work that happened here, learn how to decode morse messages, and discover “The place where WWII was won”. This social club has limited space, so please call Abbie to put your name in the lottery.

Sunday 22 December 1 – 3pm: Pub Club – Wavertree

What better way to enjoy the last Sunday afternoon before Christmas, than with a free drink and some great conversation with your neighbours at this cosy pub club. Come together for a catch up, or chat to someone new. Note the new venue this month!
