Relocating the Remains: History and Representation

October 23, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

| £4 – £6
1992 Trophies of Empire poster

This discussion coincides with publication of The Sphinx Contemplating Napoleon: Global Perspectives on Contemporary Art and Difference, an anthology of Gilane Tawadros’ writings.

She will be joined by artists Keith Piper, Kader Attia and Jo Stockham to discuss the relationship between history, representation and cultural identity through the prism of contemporary art: what impact does the past, and nostalgia for it, have on the present? How can different histories inform and transform our understanding of the present? Chaired by Bluecoat Artistic Director, Bryan Biggs.
