Starting in January, based at The Atkinson in Southport, this hands-on arts course is for people living with dementia, their families and those who support them.
Every other Wednesday, participants can get creative and make new friends in this fortnightly art group. The group will have special access to collections at The Atkinson and take part in a range of creative activities inspired by what they see. No arts experience necessary!
The course offers people the chance to learn new skills, rekindle forgotten interests and work with practising artists to tell stories about their lives and experiences.
Where the Arts Begin is part of Where the Arts Belong, a ground-breaking partnership between Bluecoat, Liverpool’s centre for the contemporary arts, innovative dementia care provider Belong, and The Atkinson, Southport’s home for the arts, culture and heritage.
Our artists’ residencies at the Belong Village in Crewe have stimulated residents and their carers alike, sparking new friendships and uncovering talents. More artists’ residencies are planned for Belong villages in Birkdale and Chester in 2020.
Course dates: January 15th & 29th, February 12th & 26th, March 11th & 25th, April 8th & 22nd, May 6th & 20th, June 3rd & 17th, July 1st & 15th.
