Staff at Kingswood Manor Nursing Home have submitted a lovely story about the 106th birthday of one of their residents, Esme.
They said: Esme is 106 years young and lives at Kingswood Manor Nursing Home.
Last year for her 105th birthday Esme was surprised with a motorbike ride, as that’s how she and her husband used to spend their courting days.
This year, it was a case of “how do we top that?” – so staff put their thinking caps on…
John from Heritage Motors answered the appeal for a vintage car to take Esme to the Adelphi Hotel, an iconic landmark for Esme. She had always admired the building and wondered what it would be like inside.
After speaking to The Adelphi, the staff there kindly invited Esme for an afternoon Cream Tea on the house.
Esme arrived in the wonderful vintage car and the staff at the Adelphi were waiting on the steps to greet her with flowers and a cheer.
The cream tea she loved and Management, Chefs, staff and visitors all came up to make a fuss.
Esme said: “I’m overwhelmed with everyone’s kindness”.
John said: “You don’t get to meet many people who have lived through two world wars, so it would be an honour”, of taking Esme to the Adelphi.
For her 107th birthday next year Esme is talking about a trip on a steam train!
