New Shared Reading groups

Shared Reading is a simple idea with a powerful impact. By bringing people together in small groups to read aloud a book, short story or poem, The Reader’s Shared Reading groups create a safe, welcoming space where individual thought and feeling is recognised and valued.

Group members can choose to read aloud, share personal reflections or simply to listen- in this way, individuals form real connections with the literature and with each other.

Three new Shared Reading groups are now taking place in Liverpool. The groups run every week, are free to attend and there is no need to book in advance – attendees can simply show up when they please, sit back and relax.

  • West Derby Library, every Wednesday from 11am
  • Oxfam (Smithdown Road), every Thursday from 1pm
  • Liverpool Central Library, every Thursday from 6pm

The Reader hopes that Shared Reading can form part of a wider community strategy to reduce social isolation, improve health and wellbeing and build community.
