Liverpool Cares’ social clubs July 2019

Below is a list of Liverpool Cares’ ​free​ Social Clubs in Liverpool for people aged 65 and above.

All of the events are hosted by people in their twenties and thirties who want to meet you and hear your stories. Share your skills and learn new ones, all while making new friends in your community!

Please call Abbie on 0151 659 1789 to book your place on any of these clubs. Some clubs have limited space, and it’s important that that they know who’s coming along! ​You can also call if you’d like any more information or if you are unsure how to get to the clubs from your home.

Tuesday 2 July, 6 – 8pm: Creative Writing
It doesn’t matter if you’re a budding writer or a complete novice, come together for a creative writing session with your younger neighbours. This month we’ll all be creating Blackout Poems from old books (which we’ll provide)! Using pages of books, we’ll be picking out words and phrases and piecing them together to create our own masterpieces!

Friday 5 July, 6 – 7.30pm
This social club is a really fun and interesting way to read as a group. We read short stories and poems aloud and pause after each paragraph to analyse the text and guess what happens next. Non-readers welcome, this group is for everyone!

Saturday 6 July, 12 – 3pm
Join your younger neighbours for our next film club. There will be snacks and drinks, and time to chat afterwards about the movie! We’ll be taking a vote beforehand for what film we’ll be watching. If you’re coming along to this club, we will be meeting in FOLK on Tithebarn Street before making our way down to the screen.

Tuesday 9 July, 2pm – 4pm
Come together for a delightful afternoon at community-owned bakery, Homebaked. There will be time for a natter whilst enjoying both savoury and sweet treats, along with tea and coffee. There are limited numbers for this club, so we will be holding a lottery. Call us to put your name down!

Wednesday 10 July, 11am – 12pm
This fantastic museum at the iconic Pier Head provides photos, films, music and items to inspire your memories of life and music in Liverpool. Come along to share and listen to everyone’s stories, and even learn something new. This month’s theme is War Time music, and the brilliant Western Approaches will be visiting to bring pieces from their collection.

Saturday 13 July, 12.30 – 2pm
Bring along your gadgets and technology-related questions, and we will pair you up with a savvy younger neighbour who can help you out. Learn how to send emails and texts or figure out how to use that app that you’ve been meaning to try for ages!

Tuesday 16 July, 6 – 8pm
Come along to this brilliant microbrewery and enjoy a free drink with your younger neighbours. Our pub clubs are a relaxed way to meet new people and chat in groups over some of your favourite tipples.

Saturday 20 July, 1 – 3pm: FACT: REAL WORK Exhibition
Immerse yourself in this new, major exhibition at FACT that presents 15 people’s uncensored stories about work that goes unrecognised. The exhibition lends a voice to those who typically remain unheard and will be a really interesting experience!

Tuesday 23 July, 6 – 8pm
Come along and sing some well-known songs alongside our fantastic Pianist Nick, in this great city centre bar. You will receive a welcome drink and some nibbles to enjoy in between singing classics like Abba and Queen with your younger neighbours – or request your own favourite song.

Wednesday 24 July, 6 – 8pm
Our regular craft club, with a new location for July! Come along to enjoy learning a fun new craft with your neighbours. Absolute beginners welcome, this month we will be making our own dreamcatchers.

Thursday 25 July, 6 – 8pm
Everyone’s favourite Board Games evening is back! Enjoy a chat and a cuppa with your neighbours over a fun game. There’s something for everyone to enjoy – whether it’s classic chess and Jenga, or learning to play something new.

Tuesday 30 July, 6 – 8pm
Back by popular demand, our comedian Emma will lead this brilliant session, where there’s no script and no lines to learn, just lots of fun and games to be had! Try your hand at this form of spontaneous comedy. Perfect if you consider yourself a joker, or just love a good laugh.
