Liverpool Cares is a community network of younger (people in their twenties and thirties) and older (people aged over 65) neighbours hanging out and helping each other out, to improve the confidence, resilience and skills of everyone involved.
All of the clubs are free and are a great opportunity for younger and older neighbours (aged over 65) to enjoy a fun activity, share stories, learn and connect with one another.

Friday 3 May, 1pm – 3pm: Gallery visit and sketching – City Centre
Enjoy an afternoon at the gallery, where you cam take a look at what’s on show, and then choose your favourite paintings or sculptures to draw. Afterwards there will be a cuppa in the cafe and a chance for a chat. Absolute beginners welcome.
Wednesday 8 May, 11am – 12pm: Reminiscence Session
A session full of music, photographs and interesting items to inspire your memories of Liverpool and music. If you like sharing stories come along and chat with your younger neighbours over a cuppa! This month’s theme is “Culture Clubs and Packed Pubs”.
Thursday 9 May, 6pm – 8pm: Craft Club – Kensington This month’s activity is card making. Create something simple, or learn how to make a pop-up or 3D card at the craft club! Use everything from stamps to stickers to make something personal to you. Complete beginners welcome, come and learn something new.
Monday 13 May, 6 – 8pm: Beer tasting – Wavertree If you enjoy beer, or have always wanted to try something new, come along to the beer tasting social club! Neil, a brewer from Liverpool based microbrewery “Top Rope”, will talking all about their drinks while you can taste along the way. Places are limited and you must book if you’d like to come. Tuesday 14 May, 6 – 8pm: Creative Writing – City Centre. It doesn’t matter if you’re a budding writer or a complete novice, come together for a creative writing session with your younger neighbours. This month’s theme is “Ritual”, whether it be writing about your morning routine or something more traditional.
Thursday 16th May, 1.15pm – 3.30pm: Business Visit MSP – Garston
Following on from their successful business visit last month, Liverpool Cares are visiting the office of Merseyside Sport in Garston who enable people of all ages and abilities to be active and unlock the power of sport. They will meet the staff, find out about the work they do and have a go at some games like Boccia – a seated sport similar to bowls. Places are limited and you must book if you’d like to come. Friday 17th May, 6pm onwards: LightNight – City Centre
LightNight is a huge one-night arts festival, shining a spotlight on the city and celebrating our world class cultural offer. Over 100 organisations collaborate to create an inspiring trail of events with talks, workshops, performance, live music and more. Liverpool Cares will be meeting up as a group and make their way around the many amazing performances in the city centre.
Saturday 18th May, 12.30pm – 2pm: Parlour Games – Penny Lane. Enjoy getting to know one another over some well-known parlour games. Are you good at charades, or is Fictionary more your game? There will be decks of cards, maybe you could teach your younger neighbours some traditional card games? Either way, it’s sure to be a good time. Bus routes: 75, 76, 80, 80A, 86A, 86C
Tuesday 21st May, 12.45pm – 3pm: LFC stadium tour – Anfield
Enjoy a free guided tour of Liverpool Football Club’s world famous stadium. The tour is planned right after the end of the season, so fingers crossed Liverpool win the league! There is time at the end of the tour to visit the museum within the stadium too. Places are limited and you must book if you’d like to come. Thursday 23rd May, 6pm – 8pm: Shiverpool Tour – City Centre. If you’d like to learn a little bit more about the history of Liverpool’s city centre with a spooky twist then this tour is for you. Shiverpool guides walk the group around the Georgian Quarter and share creepy tales, teaching you about the mysteries and hidden histories of Liverpool.
Saturday 25th May, 12.30pm – 2pm: Technology Workshop – Penny Lane
Want to improve your confidence with your phone or laptop? Come along for a cuppa and bring your gadgets and technology-related questions with you! Liverpool Cares will pair you up with one of your younger neighbours who will try to answer all of your questions.
Monday 27th May, 6pm – 8pm: Cocktail party – City Centre. Come together with your younger neighbours at this popular city centre bar, just over the road from the Metropolitan Cathedral. Enjoy cocktails (or a soft drink if you like) and chat. There will be a Nintendo racing game tournament on the big screens if you want to get involved, or feel free to just get to know one another over some lovely drinks!
Tuesday 28th May, 6pm – 8pm: Shared Reading – City Centre. In collaboration with The Reader, at this club they will be reading short stories and poems aloud together. As a group you can discuss the texts, what you think they mean, if you can relate to them or how they make you feel. It’s good fun, there’s no pressure to read aloud. Whether you never read or do all the time, they’d love you to join them.
Wednesday 29th May, 6pm – 8pm: Board Games – Wavertree. The popular board games evening is back, with something for everyone to enjoy. Play something traditional like scrabble, or learn something new! Order yourself a cuppa and then browse the shelves of this quirky cafe to find something to play with your neighbours.
Thursday 30th May, 6:pm – 8pm: Singalong for beginners – City Centre. A pianist will play some well-known songs from the past and present, and you can sing along as a group. Perfect for beginners, music fans or if you’ve ever wanted to be in a choir. They provide the lyrics, and there will be nibbles and a free welcome drink to enjoy. If you don’t fancy singing, just enjoy the atmosphere and tunes!
