Liverpool Cares social clubs in June 2019

Below is a list of Liverpool Cares’ free Social Clubs in Liverpool for people aged 65 and above. All of the events are hosted by people in their twenties and thirties who want to meet you and hear your stories. Share your skills and learn new ones, all while making new friends in your community!

Please call Abbie on 0151 659 1789 to book your place on any of these clubs. Some clubs have limited space, and it’s important that Liverpool Cares knows who’s coming along! You can also call if you’d like any more information or if you are unsure how to get to the clubs from your home.

Tuesday 4 June, 1- 3pm: Magical Beatles Museum visit – city centre
This newly opened museum on Liverpool’s famous Mathew Street is full of previously unseen Beatles memorabilia! If you’re a fan of the Fab Four, or just want to learn some more about them, this museum is a must-see.

Saturday 8 June, 12 – 3pm: Film Club – city centre
Join your younger neighbours for our first ever film club. There will be snacks and drinks, and time to chat afterwards about the movie! Liverpool Cares will be showing a comedy this time, and you can vote while you’re there for next month’s film. If you’re coming along to this club, we will be meeting in FOLK on Tithebarn Street before making our way down to the screen.

Monday 10 June, 6 – 8pm: Pub Club – Wavertree
Come along to this Mexican-themed bar and enjoy some free drinks with your younger neighbours. Our pub clubs are a relaxed way to meet new people and chat in groups over a couple of your favourite tipples.

Wednesday 12 June, 11am – 12pm: Reminiscence Session – city Centre
This fantastic museum at the iconic Pier Head provides photos, films, music and items to inspire your memories of life and music in Liverpool. Come along to share and listen to everyone’s stories, and even learn something new. This month’s theme is Northern Soul and Motown on the Mersey, including the old Mardi Gras club on Mount Pleasant.

Thursday 13 June, 12.45 – 3pm: Business Visit – HL Structural Engineers – city centre
This month’s business visit is to the brilliant HL Structural Engineers. They have invited Liverpool Cares into their office to learn all about the work they do in our city, which includes restoration work to the Bombed Out Church, as well as work on modern high rise apartments you may see popping up around Liverpool. This will be a really interesting visit – not to be missed!

Monday 17 June, 6 – 8pm: Singalong- city centre
Come along and sing some well known songs alongside the fantastic pianist Nick, in this great city centre bar. You will receive a welcome drink and some nibbles to enjoy in between singing Abba and Queen classics with your younger neighbours – or request your own favourite song.

Thursday 20 June,  – 8pm: Craft Club (Basket Weaving) – Kensington
Learn how to create your own colourful woven baskets at this regular craft club. They’re perfect to keep your coins, keys or jewellery in! Absolute beginners welcome, this is a simple and fun activity.

Sunday 23 June, 1 – 3pm: The Great Get Together! Pizza and Quiz afternoon – city centre
Come together for some delicious fresh pizza, tasty drinks and a quiz! Liverpool Cares will put you into small groups with your neighbours and hand out some questions to test your knowledge. Winner gets a prize!

Monday 24 June, 6 – 8pm: Shared Reading – city centre
This social club is a really fun and interesting way to read as a group. Read short stories and poems aloud, and pause after each paragraph to analyse the text and guess what happens next. Non-readers welcome, this group is for everyone!

Tuesday 25 June, 12.30 – 2pm: Empire Theatre creative session – city centre
This session in the Empire Theatre will include a selection of taster activities with professionals, from performing arts and circus skills to creative writing and arts and crafts. You don’t need any experience, just a willingness to take part and have a go!

Thursday 27 June, 2pm – 4pm: Western Approaches visit – city centre
Western Approaches is a breathtaking WW2 bunker hidden under the streets of Liverpool. Gain access to this fascinating piece of history, and learn all about the people that worked there and why it’s known as “the place where WW2 was won”.

Friday 28 June, 6 – 8pm: Italian Club – Aigburth
The Douglas Room, Aigburth cricket ground, Aigburth Road,
If you’ve always wanted to learn a new language, or just love Italy, come along to this Italian for beginners, led by neighbour Sylvia! Enjoy Italian snacks and drinks, share stories from times you’ve been to the country and learn some basic phrases.
