The Plaza Community Cinema holds a regular daytime screening, on the third Thursday of each month at 2.00pm.
Thursday 27 June
Doors open 1.30pm and the film starts 2.00pm
This month’s screening is ‘Viva Las Vegas’ with Elvis Presley and Ann Margaret. Released in July 1964, it is Elvis’ most popular film, and includes 11 musical soundtracks to sing along with or tap your feet.
These specialist screenings are aimed at people living with dementia, their families and carers. It is a lovely afternoon out, and a chance for families to enjoy a stress free social event in a beautiful environment.
The screening takes place in the cinema’s largest screen, restored to its art deco splendour and a worthy contender for the title ‘Picture Palace.’ It is a self-contained space easily accessible for wheelchair users, with up to 18 spaces. To the right and left of the screen are male and female toilets. A fully accessible toilet is available in the foyer. Visitors are welcomed and assisted by ‘Dementia Friends’ trained staff.
The film programme is a combination of classic movies and musicals specially selected to trigger memories. If people attending the screens have a favourite film they would like to see, we will do our best to include this in our programme.
There is a short break at the middle of the film to serve tea/coffee and biscuits, these are included in the admission price of £4/free for care staff.
