Dementia-friendly screening: Singin’ in the Rain at The Atkinson, Southport

Everyone is welcome to attend the screening of the classic film Singin’ in the Rain on 24 May at 1.30pm. 

Starring Gene Kelly, Donnald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds, this is the story of a great moment in motion picture history, when the screen learned to talk! Journey to Hollywood in The Roaring Twenties when the ‘talkies’ started to sing…

Featuring songs to sing along to including Beautiful GirlMake ‘Em Laugh, Good Mornin’ and of course, Singin’ in the Rain.

The relaxed screening takes place as part of Dementia Action Week so everyone can enjoy the classic film. What is more, carers go free. Carers include anyone who attends the screening to make their companion comfortable. The Atkinson is proud to support Alzheimer’s Society.

The screening will take place at The Atkinson in Southport, Lord Street, PR8 1DB. Just 3 minutes-walk from Southport train station. The Atkinson is fully accessible, with lifts to all floors. Staff and volunteers at The Atkinson are trained Dementia Friends.

The Atkinson Museum

Why not make a day of it? The Atkinson museum is free of charge and is open 10am – 4pm.  Featuring the story of Sefton’s coast, the museum includes displays of Sefton’s History including the story of Southport, Red Rum, the role Sefton played during the war, its motor racing history as well as the story of some of its famous faces including Frank Hornby inventor of Meccano and Frank Hampson, creator of Dan Dare.
