Liverpool Cares April social clubs

Liverpool Cares is a community network of younger (people in their twenties and thirties) and older (people aged over 65) neighbours hanging out and helping each other out, to improve the confidence, resilience and skills of everyone involved.

All of the clubs are free and are a great opportunity for younger and older neighbours (aged over 65) to enjoy a fun activity, share stories, learn and connect with one another.

Please note that the locations have not been advertised. Please call Abbie on 0151 659 1789 if you’d like any more information, are unsure how to get to the clubs from your home, or if you’d like to book onto any of the clubs.

Monday 1 April, 6 – 8pm: Singalong for beginners
Pianist Nick will play some well-known songs from the past and present, and we will sing along as a group. Perfect for beginners, music fans or if you’ve ever wanted to be in a choir. Liverpool Cares will provide the lyrics, and there will be nibbles from the restaurant to enjoy. If you don’t fancy singing, just come along to enjoy the atmosphere and tunes!

Sunday 7 April, 11am – 12.30pm: Nature Walk
Meet at the main cafe in the centre of the park for this nature walk, where you can learn all about the the park’s wildlife. The group will receive guides and photos of different animals to look out for on this leisurely stroll with park expert Andrea. Try to spot the rare Mandarin Duck!

Monday 8 April, 6 – 8pm:  Still Life Drawing – City centre
Find your inner artist at this creative club, where the group will be drawing the objects we can see around us in the cafe. Liverpool Cares will provide pencils, paper and refreshments, so all you need to bring is yourself! Complete beginners (and those who hated art at school!) very welcome.

Wednesday 10 April, 11am – 12pm: Reminiscence session
Explore music, photographs and interesting items from amazing collections to inspire your memories of Liverpool and music. Come along and share your stories with your younger neighbours over a cuppa! This month’s theme is ”Music in the making.” Who and what are your favourite bands or artists?

Thursday 11 April, 6 – 8pm: Board games
Everyone’s favourite Board Games evening is back! Enjoy a chat and a cuppa with your neighbours over a fun game. There’s something for everyone to enjoy – whether it’s classic chess and Jenga, or learning to play something new.

Tuesday 16 April, 6 – 7pm: Shared Reading
In collaboration with The Reader, at this club we will be reading short stories and poems aloud together. Discuss the texts as a group, what they mean, if we can relate to them or how they make us feel. It’s good fun, there’s no pressure to read aloud. Whether you never read or do all the time, we’d love you to join us.
Bus routes: Any bus which takes you into the city centre

Thursday 18 April, 5.30 – 7.30pm: Try Vegan food! Pub Club – Wavertree

If you’ve always wanted to try something vegan, or if you’re already a plant-based expert, come along and enjoy the company of your neighbours over something yummy! Their “fish” and chips has to be tried to be believed, but if the food isn’t for you, just pop along and enjoy a drink and a good natter.

Saturday 20 April, 12.30 – 2pm: Technology workshop
Bring along your gadgets and technology-related questions, and Liverpool Cares will pair you up with a savvy younger neighbour who can help you out. Learn how to send emails and texts or figure out how to use that app that you’ve been meaning to try for ages!

Tuesday 23 April, 6  – 8pm: Comedy Improv’ Club
Comedian Emma will lead this brilliant session, where there’s no script and no lines to learn, just lots of fun and games to be had! Try your hand at this form of spontaneous comedy. Perfect if you consider yourself a joker, or just love a good laugh.

April is the month of the Grand National, so this Craft Club has an Aintree twist. Create races-worthy outfits out of toilet roll and anything else you can find in the craft room with a prize for the best dressed. Then there will be a screening of an old Grand National race, and you can place penny bets on who you will think will win!
