Lister Steps community memory project

Lister Steps, a childcare charity based in Tuebrook, are restoring the old Andrew Carnegie Library on Lister Drive with the help & support of Heritage Lottery Funding.

They plan to repair and renovate the building into a community hub with opportunities for people to come together, have fun, learn new things and share experiences that make our local area a better place to live, work and visit.

Construction work is due to start soon but Lister Steps are already running a range of activities & events. Throughout  2019, they are keen to meet new people and gather memories, stories and reflections of The Old Library and life in the area over the years.

Their community memory project kicked off in January and as part of the project there are monthly memory sharing sessions at West Derby Library (West Derby Road, L13 7HQ) on the last Tuesday of each month.

You can drop in any time between 10am and 12pm for a free cup of tea, biscuit and a friendly chat about life in Tuebrook, West Derby, Old Swan or just Liverpool life in general!

If you can’t make it, they have also set up a Facebook group where people can share their memories. Simply search for ‘Community Memories – Lister Drive & beyond’ and ask to join.

Lister Steps are also happy to run ad-hoc memory sharing sessions in different settings so would love to hear from any local social groups, care homes or anyone who might like us to come in and chat to their group.
