Joe Darroch BEM, has provided a short article about a recent trip attended by veterans.
Joe said: “Amongst other groups , Veterans HQ were invited to Bootle Firwood Cricket Club in early October.
This was to celebrate ‘the good times’ on International Older Persons Day, organised by One Vision Housing. Guests joined in celebrating 100 years since Parliament passed the Act which allowed some women, and all men, to vote for the first time.
The group enjoyed a champagne afternoon tea and danced and sang to Liver Bird Vicky Jones and PJ Laine.
To get in the spirit of things and looking the part, ladies wore suffragette-style dress and gentlemen Edwardian-style dress. The Gentleman in the photograph wearing this type of attire is Veteran HQ Alan Kelly who amongst other duties represents HQ as a Standard Bearer at funerals and other events.
As part of the event I was interviewed by the One Vision Committee to explain the HQ Buddy innovative and my role within the organisation.”
