Variety Film Club is launching at the Royal Court this Christmas

The team behind the Royal Court’s Variety Lunch Club have hatched a new plan so that you can have an afternoon out with friends while watching some of the greatest films ever produced.

You can book a £6 ticket which gets you a bowl of Scouse and a cup of tea along with the film, or a £3 ticket for just the film.

This month’s films are:

Casablanca (1942) – 6 December

Rick Blaine is a cynical world-weary ex-patriate who runs a nightclub in Casablanca, Morocco during the early stages of WWII. Despite the pressure he constantly receives from the local authorities, Rick’s cafe has become a kind of haven for refugees seeking to obtain illicit letters that will help them escape to America. But when Ilsa, a former lover of Rick’s, and her husband, show up to his cafe one day, Rick faces a tough challenge which will bring up unforeseen complications, heartbreak and ultimately an excruciating decision to make.

Miracle On 34th Street (1947) – 20 December

When Doris Walker frantically recruits a last minute replacement Santa for Macy’s Christmas parade, she finds on that seems ideal for the job and perhaps for good reason – he says his name is Kris Kringle and that he’s the real Santa Claus. He is a big hit at the department store, speaking many languages and he always knows just what kids would like. When Kris has a run-in with the Department store’s psychological tester, the man tries to have him committed leading to a court case where Doris’ lawyer neighbor Fred Gailey tries to prove in court that Kris is the real Santa Claus. More important to Kris throughout all of this is to get Doris and her daughter, Susan, to believe in him.
