Our next network meeting takes place on 3pm, Thursday 10th September in the Box at FACT.
The theme for this month’s meeting is how to involve older men in creative and cultural activities, and we are delighted that we’ll be joined by Esme Ward from 2015 Museum of the Year the Whitworth Art Gallery. Esme will be talking about how the Whitworth worked with local communities while it was closed for extensive refurbishment, and how older people have participated in the gallery since. The Whitworth has published a guide to cultural engagement with older men which was the result of a project led by the Whitworth’s Ed Watts with researcher Antonio Benitez and poet Tony Curry. You can download a copy of the handbook here.
We’ll also be finding out about a project closer to home – FACT have been developing digital tours of the north end of Liverpool in partnership with a diverse mix of local residents including older men and some veterans. They’ll be telling us about the project and what they have learned along the way.
Finally, the meeting is unmissable because the famous HOP Pot is about to open for a second round of grants. It’s for small but perfectly formed projects which enable older people to take part in arts and cultural activities. This year we have 10 grants of £300 available. Come along to the meeting to pick up application details, find out more and develop your ideas with potential partners.
We look forward to seeing you there for tea, cake and lots of lively conversation.
