Everton in the Community have secured funding from NHS Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group to deliver a new programme aimed at tackling social isolation among individuals aged over 75 living in Everton.
Launching in August, Stand Together will provide four sessions every week of interactive and bespoke activities to those currently experiencing limited social contact.
Delivered from Goodison Park, the sessions will offer activities focusing on the individuals’ enjoyment including fascinating sessions on the history of the city, visits to local places of interest, reminiscence workshops on football as well as match day experiences and guest speakers.
Stand Together will also provide individuals with the opportunity to engage with others from their local area and share experiences and stories and a befriending service will be offered to those on the programme ensuring that they receive regular communication and assistance from staff within the Club’s official charity Health and Wellbeing team by way of a home visit or a phone call offering friendly conversation and companionship in addition to a link to the outside world and a gateway for other services and support.
Participants on the unique programme will receive access to range of services offering information on local health services available as well as advice on welfare, fuel poverty, energy efficiency and community-based activities. To ensure that all health care needs are met, individuals will also be able to attend screening programmes at Goodison Park for conditions such as abdominal aortic aneurysm, atrial fibrillation and other conditions as directed by GPs such as flu vaccinations.
Michael Salla, Everton in the Community’s Health and Wellbeing Manager, said:
“We are delighted to be launching this unique programme to help tackle social isolation and improve the quality of lives of older adults living in our local community. The plan is for this project to become successful and subsequently expanded across the city.
