Vintage Style at the Albert Dock

At HOP we’ve been thinking about all things fashion, after finding the wonderful Advanced Style blog by Ari Seth Cohen, a New York based photographer. After several years of photographing creative and stylishly dressed older people on the streets of New York and documenting them on his blog, Advanced Style is now a documentary available on Netflix. The advanced style ladies have featured in ad campaigns and been on television across America, spreading the message that as you get older, making an effort to look good can help you feel good too. The photo at the top is of Ilona Royce Smithkin, an artist in her nineties whose false eyelashes are a thing of joy.

Closer to home, if you are inspired by Advanced Style, the Albert Dock is holding Vintage on the Dock this weekend, a ‘cultural and musical vintage extravaganza’ (4th and 5th July from 10am) to  celebrate the cultural links between Liverpool and New York. Hear the stories of the Cunard Yanks, dance the lindyhop and the jive, check out the food stalls and visit the market for vintage fashion finds. This event forms part of the One Magnificent City celebrations.
