HOP Pot – successful applicants announced!

We’re thrilled to announce the successful applicants for HOP Pot small grants funding – each of the organisations/activities listed has been awarded £250 towards their costs, with all events happening between very soon and January 2015. We’ll be posting more about the individual happenings nearer the time, so check back for more!

Chaturangan

Chaturangan will be holding two sessions of Indian dance performance and participatory activity at St Mary’s Millennium Centre, in partnership with the Women’s Fellowship.

China Pearl

China Pearl are putting their HOP Pot towards hosting a Chinese cultural day for 80 residents at Moss View Care Home – activities scheduled for the day include dance, music, tai chi and movement workshops.

Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival

Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival are commissioning an artist to deliver textile art workshops with a group of older women who meet at Liverpool Arabic Centre. These workshops will lead to the creation of a wall hanging that will then go on display during the Arabic Arts Festival.

Pagoda Arts Centre

Over the next few weeks, Pagoda Arts Centre are running a series of 12 Chinese knot craft sessions that are open to all but targeted at older people, leading to a small exhibition. They’ll also be holding a series of tai chi taster sessions for older people, in partnership with Riverside and Wheel Meet Again.

Everyman and Playhouse

In order to encourage older people to join their community forum, Everyman and Playhouse are working in partnership with Steve Biko Housing Association to put on a series of play readings and workshops in the community, followed by visits to the Everyman for a tour and performance.

The Florrie

The Florrie’s HOP Pot will be used as funding for transport to enable local older people to attend the Florrie’s community open day on 7th October. An artist will also be on hand to deliver hands-on activities for older visitors during the event.

Merseyside Dance Initiative

MDI are looking to get older people moving with five taster sessions to encourage new members to join 50 Moves, their over 50s dance group, which is suitable for those with no previous dance experience.

PSS and the Bluecoat

PSS and the Bluecoat plan to put their HOP contribution towards the cost of funding nine creative workshops for older people with mental health problems, including trips to City Centre galleries.

Royal Court Theatre

The community choir at the Royal Court Theatre largely consists of members over the age of 50. Their HOP Pot grant will be used for the provision of refreshments as a contribution towards the cost of supporting the choir, which meets weekly.

Sing Me Merseyside

Sing Me Merseysjde has a network of informal singing groups spread right across Merseyside, and will be hosting an open evening event to support and promote that network.

Poppies Group, St Leonards Community Centre

The Poppies Group’s HOP Pot is being put towards the cost of a series of trips to cultural and heritage venues in Liverpool City Centre, with follow up reminiscence sessions themed around how the physical landscape of the city has changed.

 Lee Valley Pensioners Club

The Lee Valley Pensioner’s Club has participated in some outreach work with the Philharmonic but has not been able to visit the Hall due to funding constraints – their HOP grant will pay for transport and refreshments to support the group to attend daytime concerts at the Philharmonic Hall.

Hurricane Films

Hurricane Films are creating a series of short features on http://www.peoples-stories.com which will take people back to visit places which were significant to them in their youth and record their memories.

Creative Drama Club 

Creative Drama Club will host creative drama workshops to engage older members of the community who have a passion or interest in theatre and drama to work alongside others to develop their own pieces of drama that they can discuss and develop as a team. The funding will support marketing, refreshments, venue hire and script printing.
